A recent article by Luke May of Bexley Times shows that Bexley has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the UK, with the national homeless charity Shelter warning of a “modern day housing crisis”. It was reported that at least six people are known to be sleeping rough with approximately 1,900 in temporary accommodation.
Such news makes us at Bexley Foodbank more aware of the difficulties faced by Bexley Council and charities like Shelter in dealing with such circumstances. Equally important is the strain placed upon families who struggle during the current financial climate.
We at Bexley Foodbank are just a small piece in a huge charitable jigsaw which aims to help the people of Bexley in their times of crisis.
